Karagwe Unplugged 7 – People at KARASECO (2)

The focus of this photo journal entry is “People of KARASECO.” Karagwe Secondary School is one of the best academic schools in Tanzania and is adjacent to the land for KARUCO. KARASECO will be a ‘feeder’ to the university. You can visit the ELCT, Karagwe Diocese website to get more information on KARASECO.

This set of entries makes up “Karagwe Unplugged.” We show in images and captions the grassroots effort of the ELCT (Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania) and ETI (Educate Tanzania, Inc) to build KARUCO (Karagwe University College). Educate Tanzania invites you on this photo tour of Karagwe using the beautiful images of Ashley Miller of AshMill Photography in Nashville, Tennessee.

If you have been following the blog, you know that Ashley volunteered to accompany Educate Tanzania Inc. (ETI) in January, 2013 as ETI led a team of curriculum developers from the College of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota and the provost from EARTH (Agricultural) University in Costa Rica. Each year, Ashley and her camera tag along with nonprofits, donating time, talents and resources to help worthy nonprofits in Tanzania tell their story. Awesome Ashley.

Feel free to see previous trips (blogs) for particulars of how the project started (2008) and how Educate Tanzania was established (2010) for the purpose of introducing KARUCO students and subsistence farmers to new ways to go about crop production, crop conservation, and harvest-to-market techniques. Dr. Benson Bagonza founded KARUCO – Karagwe University College to address the need for improved agriculture. With his vision he hopes to stem the brain drain and provide an alternative to early marriage. The idea of a university has taken hold and building has begun. Under the coordination of Dr. Brighton Katabaro, Coordinator of KARUCO, the proograms, curricula, and recruitment have also begun.
